Man Sues Church Where He Fell While WorshippingKNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A Tennessee man says he was so consumed by the spirit of God that he fell and hit his head while worshipping. Now he wants the Lakewind Church of Knoxville to pay 2.5 million dollars for his medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering. Matt Lincoln says he's suing after the church's insurance company denied his claim for medical bills, including two surgeries since the June 2007 injury. He says he was asking God to have "a real experience" while praying. Lincoln says he has fallen from the force of the spirit before but has always been caught by someone. Lawyers for the church say other congregants saw him on the floor laughing after his fall. They say he failed to look out for his own safety. |

Darfur Situation Requires More Than Money OPINION, July 10 /Christian Newswire/ -- The following opinion article is submitted by Dr. Joseph Chavady:
We urgently need to bring the suffering of the displaced and persecuted people in Darfur before the Almighty God. Pray for protection and provision, for the leaders, and that God will grant wisdom to all who are involved in the peace negotiations. Pray for an end to the terrible crisis. More than four million civilians continue to suffer as a result of ongoing attacks by armed forces and other groups. At least 100 thousand civilians were forced to flee this year alone, with women and children especially being targeted and abused.
UN Secretary Ban-Ki Moon says neither humanitarian aid nor peacekeeping missions can resolve the current crisis. What is needed first of all is for all parties and stakeholders to lay down their arms and commit to a peaceful settlement. "Let us not dwell on what has been lost in Darfur," he recently stated, "but call upon all parties to immediately focus on what can be achieved by ending the hostilities, protecting civilians and coming to the negotiating table in good faith to secure the peace the Darfurians desperately need now." |
